San Francisco’s nightlife community was hit with sobering news in February, when DJ Marques Lewis, aka Risk One, was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of bladder cancer. Affecting less than 2 percent of bladder cancer patients in the U.S., Adenocarcinoma typically occurs in men over 60, thus making the otherwise healthy 32-year-old Risk One’s diagnosis extremely unusual.

Surgery has been scheduled for March 13 and the estimated recovery time is two months if all goes smoothly. Unable to work since the diagnosis, a GoFundMe page has been setup to help him pay off the rapidly rising medical expenses and daily living costs.

Bruno’s in the Mission will be holding a benefit for him this Tuesday, March 3 starting at 9 p.m., featuring some of his closest friends and colleagues behind the decks in support. Proceeds from door donations, bottle service, and silent auction as well as a percentage of bar sales will directly benefit Risk One.

Here’s what a few of his friends and colleagues who will be playing the event had to say about Risk One:

"As a DJ, Risk is one of the best at turning up the crowd and his routines are flawless. As a friend and someone that I work with on a regular basis, he’s so easy to admire and respect because he works hard at what he does, always tells it like it is, and is just a fun person to be around. His opinion matters to me and getting that same kind of respect back from him is very fulfilling." -CLAKSAARB

"Risk is always a man of his word. From friend to business colleague he is always someone you can count in. For me as a talent buyer and peer - I feel that being trustworthy in this business is the biggest contribution you can give as that quality is priceless and rare these days. Thank you Brother!" - DJ E-Rock

“Risk is an amazing friend, talented DJ and really has an unfathomable work ethic. Early in our careers we were going to start a producer duo called "The Odd Couple" - Presumably because he is short, dark and handsome while I am tall, pasty and fugly.” - DJ Nature

“When Risk first moved here from Seattle we were all worried he would take all our gigs. His style and energy were intimidating but impossible not to admire.” – Miles Medina

“Risk One is a really great guy, besides him being a talented DJ. I remember I was trying to learn how to use Ableton, and he was the first person to invite me to come to his studio to teach me. He took the time out to help me when he didn't have to. I'll always appreciate, and remember that.” – J. Espinosa

“Risk is one of the hardest working professionals I’ve ever known. He’s stayed with me dozens of times down in San Diego and every morning, no matter what time I'd wake up, he’d always already be awake working on his laptop.” – DJ Kurch

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
