Over the course of three EPs and a full-length, 2013’s The Ways We Separate, Brooklyn duo Beacon has mapped a slow but determined course over the waters between gently burbling morning-after techno and neo-Teutonic synthetic menace.

Their new EP, L1, released in December, continues that gradual outward progression while also demonstrating that it’s possible to reconcile the sterile and the intimate in the same space — which makes good enough sense in our age of algorithmically enabled love and designer drugs.

Not to say that they veer much into the archly post-sentimental world of their PBR&B counterparts; theirs are dreamy, courtly jams at heart, plenty smooth but still irremediably, and thankfully, human. New York glitch collagist Lord RAJA and local atmospheric house productrix Running in the Fog open.

Beacon with Lord RAJA and Running in the Fog, 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28th at the Rickshaw Stop. $10-12; rickshawstop.com.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
