You might’ve already seen the lineup for Live 105’s super sold-out Not So Silent Night Club Night going down this Thursday at the Mezzanine. If you haven’t, it’s headlined by electro-R&B sensation Banks, indie stalwarts the Cold War Kids and the UK’s highly talked about funk outfit, Jungle. Aaron Axelsen (who’s also DJing the event) and Live 105 have put together a solid lineup. But below the names of these three buzz bands rests an artist who could be towering above all of them come this time next year: Electro-pop singer Ryn Weaver.

Go ahead and remember that name, because there’s big time potential for Weaver to become the next pop starlet. Midway through this year, she cryptically dropped the track “Octahate” and it became a viral sensation, getting over a million hits in its first two weeks on Soundcloud. This is a big deal for a totally unknown, but when you bump “Octahate,” it’s easy to see why it made everyone so crazy. It’s one of the most addicting tracks of 2014, was co-produced by Passion Pit frontman Michael Angelakos, Benny Blanko, and Cashmere Cat, and Weaver co-wrote it with Charli XCX. The track was intended to come out with a bang and now here we are, with Weaver making a brief stop in San Francisco.

Her CMJ festival set at Brooklyn’s Baby’s All Right venue was one of the most talked about sets of the fest, as Weaver breezed through the songs on her four-track EP Promises. She then closed with an intense explosion of energy that is “Octahate.” Now it’s our turn to feel that same moment.

All four tracks on Promises are quality pop songs that don’t suck one bit. “Stay Low” has a melodramatic, driving in the car on a breezy day feel, “Sail On” sees Ryn flexing her vocal range, but it’s not often that one particular song makes it seem like an artist is capable of a pop scene takeover. (That song is "Octahate.”)

Bump the track that we’ve conveniently dropped below this post and show up early Ryn Weaver’s opening set if you’re heading to NSSN’s Club Night on Thursday. Then bookmark her name, cause she’s just laying in the cuts and poised to make a massive splash in 2015.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
