If you're not familiar with American Idol — you must be living under a rock — the reality show has launched some previously unknown singers to stardom (Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Clarkson) while other winners have disappeared (Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino). But, if you think you have what it takes to be a star, the reality show is coming to the Bay Area to hear you sing.

The audition process starts early on Monday, September 29 — 6 a.m. at the Cow Palace. And while in years pass people have been so eager to sing for the judges that they've camped out overnight, this year they're not allowing it, so leave the tent at home. Also, contestants must be between 15-28 years old (those under 18 must attend with a legal guardian), must not be in a recording contract or be related to someone who works at Fox (immediate family), and of course, be willing to stand in line for an ungodly amount of time. And don't think it's a one-day audition, their FAQ portion of the site notes:  "The current plan is that those who make it through the first and second round of open auditions in each city will be asked to return for subsequent rounds. This may take several days, so be prepared."

However, don't think that by just showing up you'll get an audition. That's right — even if you show up early and stand in line all day you're not guaranteed a chance to sing for the judges. According to the site's FAQs, " If our time is running short, the Producer may walk around the venue to pick out people to audition (regardless of how early
they registered or their seat numbers) based on performing ability, look, style, personality and other factors, at Producer’s sole discretion."

So if you were thinking about wearing a flashy outfit and bringing a baton to twirl, you might as well go for it.

American Idol auditions, September 29, 6 a.m., at the Cow Palace (2600 Geneva, Daly City), more information here.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
