First City Festival Will Return to Monterey; Announces August Dates

Posted By on Tue, Feb 4, 2014 at 9:24 AM

BottleRock Napa Valley wasn't the only major new Northern California festival to launch last year. In Monterey, the folks behind Coachella launched First City Festival, named in honor of its history as a city of firsts for California. The two-day event drew more than 20,000 people to catch an indie-focused lineup at the Monterey Fairgrounds that included Passion Pit, MGMT, Beach House, the Hold Steady, and Neko Case. Not every festival makes it around for a second time, but organizers have just announced that after a successful inaugural outing, First City will be returning in 2014.

No lineup details are available yet, but the festival will take place Aug. 23 and 24 at the Monterey County Fair and Event Center. Mark your calendars now, Monterey fans. We'll let you know when lineup and ticketing details are released.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
