Big news for anyone still quietly mourning the fizzling out of Comets on Fire, those indomitable leaders of Santa Cruz-via-S.F. psych/noise/blues/badassery back in the early-to-mid 2000s: After nearly six years on hiatus, with a few occasional near-unions, the band is getting back together for a show in Oakland next month.
Comets on Fire were -- how else to put it? -- amazing. The band developed from a bruising psych outfit (whose eponymous debut album sold out of its initial pressing) to an artful rock 'n' roll juggernaut whose Sub Pop-released Blue Cathedral, won tons of praise. It's the kind of group that would make certain people (okay, fine, us) want to move to S.F. to write about music.
Comets on Fire will perform Tuesday, Nov. 26, at the White Horse in Oakland, presented by Stranded Records. Tickets are available here. Get 'em while they last.
