So Mazzy Star, whom you know from your time with alt-rock radio (if not from any "just before bed" playlist you made when you were, say, 16), has a new album coming out next week, its first in 17 years. Seasons of Your Day will feature Hope Sandoval and David Roback and some special guests, including My Bloody Valentine drummer Colm O'Ciosoig (who is Sandoval's husband), and the Bert Jansch. Since Sandoval and O'Ciosoig live in the East Bay, we can squint and call this a local release. But this dreamy video for "California" will make clear the duo's affection for the state anyway. Filmed from a rooftop somewhere in the British Isles (we think) and in California (that sure looks like Coachella), it's a fluid series of clips that is well, very Mazzy Star. Check it out below, (or here, as that link doesn't seem to be working yet) and stream the entire new album over at NPR.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
