Throwback soul is a tricky enterprise: You gotta pay homage to the greats yet stand out -- while still openly standing on their shoulders. The rare groups that do it well, like the Bay Area's Myron & E, are a treasure: "If I Gave You My Love," which comes with a sultry black-and-white video, is all smooth purring and understated groove. Newly signed to noted L.A. label Stones Throw, this duo is percolating up through the national scene, and seems talented enough to make a big impact. They're also at Brick and Mortar Music Hall tomorrow, Thursday, July 11, so if this video catches your fancy, you can find yourself in a similar scene very, very soon.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
