A small public service announcement to everyone who thought the world would end yesterday: the apocalypse was always scheduled for Dec. 21, not Dec. 12. That said, we've got a little over a week left before the big day, so let's try to have fun, alright? It shouldn't be very hard to do when things are looking as good as they are. Fans of Berlin institution Panorama Bar should take note: There are some can't-miss parties on the way. Read on -- your weekend awaits.

5. Face presents Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang @ Public Works

Friday, Dec. 14, 9:30 p.m. - 3:30 a.m.

DFA-affiliated New Yorkers Pat Mahoney and Nancy Whang are back for their second turn behind the decks at Public Works in 2012. Just like last time, they're headlining Face and bringing their unique, disco-centric sound with them. Both ex-members of the now disbanded LCD Soundsystem, they've since gone on to find success on their own. Whang sings for The Juan Maclean (listen to "Happy House"), and Mahoney DJs with James Murphy as Special Disco Version. For a refresher, check out this SF Weekly interview from the last time they were here. Expectations for this one run high -- as it says on that article's comments section, "THIS WAS THE BEST DJ GIG IN YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHRS." Local support comes by way of Face resident DJ Eug and -- full disclosure -- myself.

4. No Way Back presents Optimo @ Monarch

Saturday, Dec. 15, 9:30 p.m. - 3:30 a.m.

The Glasgow party outfit returns to San Francisco for another intense evening at No Way Back. This will mark their third appearance together in San Francisco since their debut in 2011. Legendary in its native U.K., Optimo is the combined product of DJs JD Twitch and JG Wilkes. Together (and seperately) they specialize in a wild jumble of dark-colored styles both past and present that includes things like obscure acid house, weird industrial, and b-side post-punk. Get a feel for what they're all about by listening to this mix and reading this review.

3. Base presents Cassy @ Vessel

Thursday, Dec. 13, 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.

As stated above, this is a week for fans of Berlin's Panorama Bar. Located on the second floor of the world famous Berghain nightclub, it's a space for tasteful house music of all flavors. UK-born, Austria-based DJ Cassy is one of the residents of this modern nightlife institution. She got there because of her unique playing style, which was eloquently summed up by Resident Advisor in a recent piece: "A one-time acting student at a top London conservatory, Cassy thinks about playing records the way a method actor approaches a role, letting herself speak through music rather than let it speak for her." It's a rare occurrence for her to be in San Francisco, and it's rarer still that she'd play at a free party (yes, that's right, RSVP and this one's free). We recommend you get ahold of her Panorama Bar 01 mix, but barring that, listen to this recording of her live at Cocoon Ibiza.

2. As You Like It presents Ben UFO @ Beatbox

Friday, Dec. 14, 10 p.m. - 4 a.m.

There aren't too many internationally touring DJs out there that solely focus on the craft. Ben UFO is one of those rare players who's only in it for DJing -- quite simply, he doesn't have any original productions under his belt whatsoever. Instead, his reputation is entirely built off the strength of his wildly imaginative sets. Coming from the UK bass/post-dubstep world, he explores a line that stretches from the deep past into the far-flung future. He developed this aesthetic while working as a prolific A&R man for the respected Hessle Audio imprint, a label he co-founded with fellow UK bass music traveller Ramadanman. Listen to his recent mix for Boiler Room and get ready for another quality evening when he headlines As You Like It this Friday.

1. Honey Soundsystem presents Prosumer @ Holy Cow

Sunday, Dec. 16, 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.

Best party in the city? It might be too early to call, but Honey Soundsystem sure makes a good argument for this title. The long-running Sunday-night affair plays host to some of the biggest DJs in the world in an environment that is simply unmatched anywhere else in the city. This Sunday sees Panorama Bar resident DJ Prosumer taking a turn behind the decks -- his first time back since his set there last year with original Ostgut/Panorama Bar resident Boris. As you might imagine, this is shaping up to be a very special evening. Prepare yourself with listen to Prosumer's live mix from Honey Soundsystem last year, and read this recent review of the party's ode to Patrick Cowley.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
