Breakfast: "12," Jurassic 5
As a means to help you forget about all that stuff we just said about dying, start your day with this! Because formulating dark and negative thoughts while listening to Jurassic 5 is literally impossible. Doesn't matter what J5 is rapping about, all we hear is "Shake that ass!" 12.12.12 is beginning! Embrace the day! Let's do this!
Work Commute: "12 Bar Original," The Beatles
There's something terribly refreshing about instrumental Beatles (especially when it's essentially a stoned "Green Onions") -- even if John Lennon did once refer to this as "some lousy 12-bar." Which goes some way to explaining why it took over 30 years for it to get released -- on Anthology 2, incidentally. If Jurassic 5 is soundtracking your shower time, this should be what you hear while walking to work today. And don't worry, there is an unedited 7-minute version if you simply can't get enough.
Lunchtime: "12:51," The Strokes
Let's be honest, 12 p.m. on 12.12.12 is an infinitely more interesting time than 12:51 p.m. But turn this Strokes mumbler on as your lunch hour approaches and let it be a handy reminder that the twelfth hour of the twelfth day of the twelfth month of the twelfth year is about to be over. Then try reading that sentence out loud and marvel at how difficult the word "twelfth" is to say over and over again in a row.
Post-Work Drinks: "12 Fingers," Young The Giant
It's a song about breaking free! And there's a reference to snow to help you feel more December-y! Perfect for shaking off the shackles of your working day and heading to the bar with friends and co-workers to make a toast to 12-12-12. Feel free to get good and drunk, safe in the knowledge that no one will have an excuse this silly to celebrate for another 100 years.
Bedtime: "Twelve Fold Chain," The Books
Well, this one is for bedtime or weed-smoking time, depending on your preference. But if The Books' "Twelve Fold Chain" -- the last track from the 2005 album Lost and Safe -- doesn't ease you into a relaxing slumber, then you are an impossibly stressed human being. Half of you probably nodded off before the first minute of this was up.
