Blackbird Blackbird is the stage name of S.F. artist Mikey Maramag, a young producer who specializes in a kind of ethereal, post-chillwave electro-pop. We've praised Blackbird Blackbird here before -- and even had him perform at a party we threw -- but the last couple of years have been especially fruitful for this solo project. In late 2010, Maramag released a debut album to kind reception; last year he toured Europe and the U.S., and signed to new S.F. electronic imprint Lavish Habits.

On Oct. 16, Maramag will release a new Blackbird Blackbird EP, entitled Boracay Planet. The whole thing is available for streaming now over at the Hype Machine, and it's a particularly good time to do it, because Blackbird Blackbird, along with local electronic pop favorites James and Evander and Baron Von Luxxury, will be performing this Friday, Oct. 12, at Underground S.F.

The show is free before 10 p.m. (with RSVP) and $5 after, and also features performances by YR Skull and Epicsauce DJs. Both Blackbird Blackbird and James and Evander will be performing live, though, so this definitely worth checking out. And it may be your last chance to catch Maramag at home for a while, as he's heading out on a U.S. tour next week.

Here's the video for "All," the lead single off of Blackbird Blackbird's new EP:

And you can stream the whole new EP over on Hype Machine.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
