For this week's Signal to Noise, our focus turns southward toward Los Angeles. From that city's thriving dance community comes the accomplished DJ trio known as Droog. In its native scene, the group has built a reputation as a streamlined unit, throwing raves at the high capacity Avalon Hollywood and poolside affairs at The Rooftop at The Standard, Downtown LA. Worldwide, the group has drawn acclaim off its associated label Culprit, a tastemaker entity that's curated works by artists like Lee Curtiss, Shonky, and Hot Natured. This Saturday, the boys are taking over The EndUp (check out our recent review of the club) for an all-night Culprit showcase. We caught up with Droog member Justin Sloe and asked him to send over a list of five favorite tracks to prepare you for the night.

"Rough Patch," by Slow Hands

"Made for last summer's DJ Kicks for Soul Clap, I was hooked on this from the very first listen. When the first guitar strums in, no matter where you are or what you are doing you can smell the ocean air and feel the sun shining."

"Better Not Look," by Havana Candy

"I couldn't find a Soundcloud or Youtube link for this, but at $1.49 here at Beatport, you really can't go wrong. It has these wonderful piano notes that ride over a bouncy bassline. I can tell you first hand, it's gone through some serious summer testing."

"Lady B's Lullaby," by jozif

"A bit biased here, but this is just so hauntingly beautiful that it had to be included. I might say this is my favorite release on Culprit yet. With his new Standard Rising EP due out later this month, there's no shortage of jozif's gems to keep this season going."

"Crazy Love (Volta Cab Dub Mix)," by MJ Cole

"An old 2-step classic, reworked without the vocals and pitched down for a gentler ride. Volta Cab has just put it up on his Soundcloud for a free download, so do yourself a kindness and go get it."

"Summer Madness," by Kool & The Gang

"Maybe the ultimate summertime jam? This will always bring you back to a particular time and place without letting go of the moment and allowing you make some new memories. Smoooooth!"

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
