Ever wonder what a day in the life of a local radio DJ is like? Well now you can know: Bay Area hip-hop website Thizzler on the Roof recently put together this short clip that follows KMEL's DJ Amen around for a day -- starting at Amoeba, heading to Papalote, and ending at a cypher with local rap crew Team BackPack. Amen is of course the pointman behind KMEL's annual Freshman 10 list of up-and-coming Bay Area artists, and one of his main focuses is finding local stars with the potential to get big. (You may remember his insights gracing our story this past summer on Kreayshawn and Lil B.) For an inside look at one of the kingmakers of the Bay Area hip-hop scene, check out this video.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
