Notwist and Themselves, as 13 & God, Issue New Album, Video for "Its Own Sun"

Yep, it's a weird idea: Oakland avant-hip-hop duo Themselves pairing up with German art-poppers the Notwist. The project is called 13 & God, and today sees the release of Own Your Ghost, the second full-length album from this unusual collaboration. There's also a rather ghostly video for "Its Own Sun," one of the more coherent tracks from the new album.

The video was directed by Notwist singer Markus Acher. "It is important to 'play ghost' at least thrice a week," Acher told Spin. "One must remember their flexible but precise relationship to death ... and don a sheet every now and again to joke with a thing that never plays with you."

Well, okay then. Check it out:

Also, grab a remix of "It's Own Sun" by labelmate Antonionian, and find another MP3 from the album, "Old Age," here.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
