  • New Sonny & the Sunsets album out next week.
It's a been whirlwind spring for releases from the grainy corner of the S.F. indie scene, with new records from Hunx and His Punx, the Sandwitches, a new Ty Segall record on the way, and, next week, a brand-new collection of songs from Sonny & the Sunsets. Hit after Hit will be the band's first new album since signing to the respected Fat Possum label last year. You've already heard "I Wanna Do It," the first single off the new album, and today, Sonny & Co. shared "Mr. Lucky," a new instrumental that will be the B-side to the "I Wanna Do It" 7-inch and will appear as a bonus track on certain editions of the album.

"Mr. Lucky" sees Sonny Smith and his band (which includes such other local luminaries as Kelley Stoltz) diving into a full-on swimming pool of vintage reverb for a surfy, moody, vocal-less ballad. Lacking, of course, any of Smith's deadpan dark humor vocals, the song doesn't want for emotion. Like a good instrumental surf track from the early '60s, the syrupy guitar leads and slowly building climax say plenty. Check out "Mr. Lucky" below.

This song will be the B-side to the "I Wanna Do It" 7-inch (also out next week), and will be included as a bonus track on the Amazon digital edition of Hit After Hit.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
