Ask and you shall receive. Or, rather, leave your four-track promo CD by the sink in the men's room at Mezzanine during a Wu-Tang show and I shall bring it home and listen to it. This one's for you, Bay Area rapper Durt Reynolds.

So Smokin' Like A Bandit vol. 2 has all the hallmarks of vol. 1: slender, slightly noirish beats; a husky and pleasingly percussive flow; lyrics almost exclusively devoted to really nasty sex rhymes. The lead single, "Breakin' Up," a reprisal about distrust and paranoia in relationships, is available as a free radio edit on iTunes, but don't let the words "radio edit" fool you: Durt is never one to pass up an opportunity to rhyme something with "suck on my nuts," to drop a simile on the order of "beatin' up the pussy like rugby." On "What U Say 'Bout Me," a standard-issue boast in defiance of all the haters, he still makes time to coin the aphorism "'tis the season for a threesome." And do you really need to ask what "Didderindashidder" is about? Or what "stick a flagpole" rhymes with?

If you can get past the thoroughgoing sleaze and the sporting misogyny, Durt is pretty good at what he does: he tap-dances on syllables only slightly less deftly than a Bone Thug, something like the love child of the Insane Clown Posse and Tech N9ne (the Georges Perec of hardcore rap, at least goatee-wise), with a little Project Pat thrown in for good measure. Nothing too challenging, but he's settled into a comfortable groove on tracks from local producer DexBeats, who by the way is having an inventory blowout sale right now (for only $35 you can own a beat that samples Pink Floyd's "Time"!). I'm not going to say you should watch this space for an epoch-defining effort from Mr. Reynolds, but you may as well at least keep your eye out in Bay Area men's rooms. Take that as you will.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
