Thanks to websites like Bandcamp and Soundcloud, self-starting DIY musicians and producers around the world can instantly deliver EPs, albums, and single songs to the awaiting masses of the Internet in a streamlined way -- charging as little or as much as they want for their goods. It's helped put the release of music back in the hands of the artists, and it makes the future of the self-sustained music world that much brighter. I've been discovering a lot of interesting local and out-of-town music from these  sites--the most recent of which is Bay Area beatmaker Elephant and Castle.

Producer Daniel Reep's  five-song Analogue EP is up now for free streaming and download on Elephant and Castle's Bandcamp profile. Reep describes his music as "a kaleidoscope of sound," and says the project "was formed with the idea of making modern music out of mostly vintage material." I'd agree with the latter comment more than the former. Elephant and Castle's Analogue EP sounds like a brief version DJ Shadow's monumental Endtroducing..... album as visualized by Flying Lotus and his beat scene compatriots -- it's all sounds that were initially born from a "love of old vinyl and the endless digging through old thrift stores." Dig into these sounds through the player below.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
