As I write this, I'm sitting on a bed in my hotel room in Seattle, waiting for more of the annual Decibel Festival to get underway tonight. I've been having a blast, and I want to make sure you do, too. Both of the artists headlining the two parties I've included below either have played or will play Decibel. And you can bet that by the end of this thing, I'll have seen them both. So I figure, if they're good enough for me, they're good enough for you. Enjoy.

Friday, September 24

Where: Mezzanine
When: 9 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: I have seen the future, and that future is Flying Lotus! I guess that's a joke, but in all seriousness, I saw Flying Lotus last night in Seattle, and it was amazing. Often, producer Steven Ellison will do a simple laptop-based performance, which is a great experience in and of itself, but last night, Ellison was joined by a live band. The bass player heard on FlyLo's epic Cosmogramma album, Thundercat, was on stage with Ellison and a live drummer, delivering dizzying riffs and a flurry of beat work. The show was incredible, and I highly recommend you catch this one at Mezzanine.

Saturday, September 25

What: Icee Hot w/ Kyle Hall, Disco Shawn, Ghosts on Tape, and Rollie Fingers
Where: 222 Hyde
When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: As I wrote in the print issue of the latest SF Weekly, "Detroit's Kyle Hall has dropped 10 internationally acclaimed singles and EPs, started his own record label, and is gearing up for another tour around the world -- and he's not even 20 yet." Hearing that might make some envious, but for this weekend, it should make you want to go see his DJ set at the Icee Hot club night. The Hyperdub-affiliated house and techno head is spinning in our city for the first time ever, and he's bringing a fine-tuned mishmash of bouncing bass and dance beats to share with us through 222 Hyde's excellent speaker set. If you like to dance to good music mixed by great DJs in an intimate atmosphere, this is your party.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
