People need to stop taking themselves so seriously when it comes to partying. Honestly, little is less fun than watching some straight-faced DJ and stoic club patron have a staring contest while your new favorite song blasts over the sound system. Music is great and all, but what use is being out at a flashy club or comfy dive on the weekend if no one is going to have stupid, crazy, what-the-hell-just-happened fun? So that's what these two parties are about: throwing caution, inhibitions, and dignity to the wolves, all in the name of having a fucking blast.

Friday, August 20

What:  Dirtybird presents Claude VonStroke, Justin Martin, Christian Martin, and Worthy
Where: Mezzanine
When: 9 p.m. - 4 a.m.
Why: San Francisco's resident house and techno badasses, the party-starting Dirtybird crew, know quite well how to throw an awesome dance party. If you've been to any of their other residencies at Mezzanine, you'll know what we're talking about. If you've never experienced the overwhelming bass grooves and head-smashing dance beats coming from the likes of label head Claude Von Stroke, brothers Justin and Christian Martin, and associate DJ/producer Worthy, well then now is your chance. And you could wonder to yourself, whatever would make this bombastic mini-rave any better? The answer: it goes until four in the morning, and it's free before 11 p.m. if you RSVP.

Saturday, August 21

What: Booty Bassment
When: 10 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Why: Thank whatever cosmic entity you like that Booty Bassment is still going strong in San Francisco. While other mix masters may act like they'll bring some of your favorite guilty pleasure club bangers to their parties, only to wimp out when comes down to it, Bassment's resident DJs, Ryan Poulsen and Dimitri, drop Top 40 hit after infectiously terrible Top 40 hit practically all night long -- and it's awesome. These guys have carved one of the most fun, most uninhibited dancefloors in San Francisco in The Knockout's lovably dingy environment. Need to get low with Lil John? Want to show your love for California with 2Pac and Dr. Dre? Looking to give your friends hugs with 50 Cent? Booty Bassment's got you covered.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
