Photo: A Tom Waits Portrait Made from Coffee and Cigarettes

Posted By on Tue, Jul 20, 2010 at 3:24 PM

Now, here's some literal art we can get behind. Artist Mike Oncley fashioned this portrait of weirdo/werewolf/musician Tom Waits out of coffee and cigarettes, the very name of a film in which Waits himself played a role. Not only is it a cool idea -- the piece itself is quite striking. Oncley is selling prints of the image for $20 on Etsy; check out a video of him making it after the jump. And if you like this one, Oncley's got many more interesting portraits of musicians on his Etsy page.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
