R.I.P. Pete Quaife, Bassist and Co-Founder of The Kinks

Posted By on Fri, Jun 25, 2010 at 3:55 PM

Well, this fucking sucks.

Pete Quaife, a founding member of the titanically influential British Invasion band The Kinks, died at age 66. This is the guy who played bass on "You Really Got Me," -- you know, one of the greatest guitar-rock songs ever -- and the entire The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society album, which was the Kinks' answer to Pet Sounds and Sgt. Peppers.

Quaife had been undergoing kidney dialysis for over a decade, according to the BBC.

Sadly, it looks like we will never see all four members of the original band back onstage together again.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
