Video of the Day: Grand Lake's "Spark"

Posted By on Fri, Jun 4, 2010 at 11:32 AM

Shot at Twin Peaks and Lake Temescal, Grand Lake's new video for "Spark" is a perfect, shimmering visualization of the song's melodic twinkles and twangs. The video uses split screen to divide up the same scene in four shaky, simultaneous images of horsey-headed lovers, mostly frolicking at Twin Peaks, however at 2:30, there's a (seemingly?) arbitrary splice of a Kurt Cobain portrait. The song is off Grand Lake's Blood Sea Dream, an album full of sweet melodies, escalating distortion and unexpected pep and optimism. They'll be playing tonight in Santa Cruz.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
