What To Do? Thursday's Pick: Emily Jane White at Hemlock Tavern

If these hazy, winter-wet nights have got you in a dreamy, spellbound mood, you're not the only one. Feeling a bit bewitched by all the murk, I'm thinking a soundtrack to these dark days is in order. Through lovelorn lyrics, politically despondent themes and somber vocals, Emily Jane White tells the stories of heartbreak and trouble on her new album, Victorian America. Released this week and recorded over the span of a year, White dubs this sophomore effort as more of a debut than a follow-up, and tonight she recalls her own dark days through her sweet, folk melodies.

If you're looking for camaraderie with whom to rue the day, you can find White at the Hemlock with Helene Renaut and Chloe Makes Music. (9 p.m., $7).

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
