Apparently it didn't matter that the stage crew took well over 30 minutes to prepare the shift between Hawthorne's set and Passion Pit's, because when the headlining band walked into the light, the entire venue lost it. Opening with "Moth's Wings," the band then transitioned into "The Reeling" and "Little Secrets," keeping the all-ages crowd constantly pumped. Live, the sound was incredibly close to Passion Pit's recordings, and singer Michael Angelakos encouraged everyone to partake in a venue-wide boogie. The night ended in a high energy "Sleepyhead" party - a definite crowd pleaser.
Having only seen clips of Passion Pit's performances, it seems the group has definitely stepped up its game since last being taped. Angelakos couldn't hit the high notes on stage, but with the help of some special effects, everyone was given a show that they were truly excited to see.
Critic's Notebook
Personal bias: Mayer Hawthorne crooned his way into my heart.
By the way: If you hurry, you can catch all these dudes at Coachella. But you seriously have to hurry...
