One of San Francisco's most accomplished producers of serene electronic soundscapes, experimental field recordings, and sample-centric beats is Scott Hansen (a.k.a. Tycho). The talented music maker doubles as a prolific graphic designer under the name ISO50--creating a trademark style with inventive album art work.

Working with the electronic-minded Ghostly label, Hansen has been building towards his debut full-length with a series of three Tycho singles. He unveiled the project in 2007 with "The Daydream"; a year afterwards came "Adrift," He closed out '09 with "Coastal Break."

Now, with Ghostly about to release a new, double-disc compilation called Horizon Line /Ghostly By Night, we're being offered a reinterpretation of Tycho's "Adrift" by label mate Shigeto.

"Adrift (Shigeto's Adrift A Dream Mix)" cranks Hansen's original atmospheric textures up to a new level of density while remaining focused on clicking rhythms and transforming synth melodies. The reinterpretation stays true to Tycho's Balearic tendencies and Boards of Canada influences, but Shigeto manages to slyly work in his own interests in slow-grooving hip-hop beats and aural textures to flesh out his detailed remix.

Keep your eyes open for the Ghostly compilations, which will be released April 13, and the as-yet-unannounced release date of Tycho's album.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
