The Black Keys, Common, N.E.R.D @ NASA Party in Mountain View

Posted By on Mon, Mar 29, 2010 at 4:37 PM

There are plenty of space cadets in San Francisco, but Yuri's Night celebrates a man for actually leaving Earth's atmosphere.

And it does this with a very Bay Area-style party, combining high technology, creative styling, and a huge dance party.

Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin officially became the first human in space on April 12, 1961. Forty years later, party throwers around the globe decided to celebrate his initial voyage with annual celebrations in 25 countries around the world. Locally, that means a weekend-long bender at the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, which proudly claims to host the biggest  (10,000 attendees) shindig on the planet.

On April 9 and 10th, NASA opens its campus to the public, with the first day being all about learning stuff and the second day being all about learning more stuff while being entertained by Common, the Black Keys, N.E.R.D., Les Claypool, The Glitch Mob, and plenty more live and DJ acts. All the info you need is here. If you go, don't forget your costumes.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
