Video of the Day: The Devil Makes Three

Posted By on Mon, Mar 8, 2010 at 2:42 PM

Localish country punk trio The Devil Makes Three trekked down to Los Angeles to film the clip for "The Johnson Family." Their story about 20 years on the road trainhopping and stealing was shot in Runyon Canyon (a place, it just so happens, I used to hike on the regular. It's right above Hollywood Blvd.) You see little of the park, though. Instead the focus is on the band members, their many tattoos, and the graffiti lining the concrete they're resting against. It's a great tune and a great little video, and not even the plane flying overhead about two minutes in can ruin things--although the birds chirping behind them is a nice touch.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
