Track of the Day: DJ D-Sharp is the "Definition of a Star"

Posted By on Wed, Mar 3, 2010 at 2:22 PM

Local DJ D-Sharp has long sweated it out behind the scenes, spinning beats for Lauryn Hill, producing tracks for Lyrics Born, Lateef the Truthspeaker, and Digital Underground's Shock G, among others. Now he's putting his name first, with a couple local hotshot emcees helping boost the morale on his latest single, "Definition of a Star."  The track is a rundown of all the ways Sharp lives up to the boast in the song title, and Kev Choice and Tony Vic have his back as he spits clever lines like "I can show you how to ball like Spalding."

Decide for yourself where you fall in Sharp's definition of stardom: the song is available for free download on the DJ/producer/emcee's Web site.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
