Club night(s): Dirtybird @ Mezzanine; We Love Worthy @ The EndUP
Style(s) of music you spin: Booty-dropping tech house and techno
So what's your story, in 100 words or less? I moved out here from NYC in 2002, after my friend Justin Martin told me the house music scene was so good here. After moving I hooked up with Justin and his Brother Christian Martin and Claude VonStroke and started up Dirtybird. I started up a label called Anabatic Records shortly after that, and have been having a great time making music and putting smiles on peoples faces.
What can you tell us about your record label? I started up Anabatic Records in 2006, as a way to give myself an outlet for my music that I had complete control of so I could create whatever I felt like. It grew quickly and people started sending me demos a year later. And now I get hundreds of demos every month. The roster has artists from all over the world and the label keeps on growing. It has been really amazing to watch it grow over the last couple of years and see who is playing the tracks.
Name of a track you can't get out of your head: Animal Collective - "Bluish"
Name of an artist you're currently championing in your DJ sets: Tom Flynn and Yankee Zulu are two guys I have been playing a lot of lately. They are also two producers on my label Anabatic.
Name of a current favorite track for the peak of your set: Hector Couto "Coco Loco"
Musical mantra: Make it fun and bouncy, and never have an ego
Favorite DJ experience: Dirtybird party in the park 2/3 years ago where we went late, and the sun went down, and everyone was holding out their cell phones so I could see the mixer.
Worst request: Tiesto
Worst club faux pas you've committed: Pressing stop on the wrong track playing.
Most treasured vinyl score: Stacey Q - "Two of Hearts" 7"
What other music-related projects are you currently working on? At the moment I am working on a collaboration with the Ashton Shuffle from Australia to go on their album.
What elements would your fantasy club night entail? A dark club, an amazing sound system, and a whole bunch of people with their hands in the air going crazy for the music.
Question we didn't ask you but you often ask yourself: Why do I take on so many remixes?
One new resolution for 2010: Less hangovers!
