Get A Streaming Preview of the New Vampire Weekend

Posted By on Tue, Jan 5, 2010 at 12:03 PM

San Francisco seems to love Vampire Weekend. The band comes to town, the show quickly sells out. The New York pop prepsters also inspire a love 'em or hate 'em outpouring of opinion, though (the recent New Yorker piece on the group included a backhanded slap of a quote from Pitchfork). Personally, I could give a shit whether they're privileged or posers or wear too many v-neck sweaters and eat too many sandwhiches. I only care if they make good music. My first couple listens of the group's new album, Contra, makes me think these guys are only getting better with the hooks as they get bigger with the hype.

NPR is streaming Contra on its Web site from now until the day the album is released a week from today. Check it out and form your own opinion about whether Vampire Weekend is savvy or sucky. Right now, I'm in the former camp.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
