Last Night: Passport to the World at Westin St Francis NYE 2010

Posted By on Sun, Jan 3, 2010 at 4:26 PM

No passports were required at this sold out New Year's Eve event, which whisked party-goers away to 10 areas featuring six different country themes. The event, held at the mirrored and gilded halls of the Westin St Francis was one of San Francisco's largest and most attended this New Year's Eve, with almost 4,000 attendees occupying over 30,000 square feet.

We were greeted by flamenco girls on stilts, given fortune cookies by a huge Golden Buddha, and danced into next year with the musical stylings of 15 DJs and the convenience of a fully stocked open bar all night long.

Spectacles of the night included a break dance show, a live drum/DJ performance by Heroes, three fashion shows, and a live art installation by Pacific Art Collective, where various artists collaboratively painted on a huge wall, blending all their diverse styles into one massive artwork.

For those that could afford the $165 to $255 ($500 upwards if you wanted a table) tickets, this party was sophistication meets the streets, lapped up and spat out, leaving us all begging for more.

Last Night: Atmosphere NYE 2010

Posted By on Sun, Jan 3, 2010 at 4:19 PM

New Year's Night brought the last SF Weekly Photobooth of the year to Club Atmosphere. The club was transformed into ancient Rome replete with cutouts of Corinthian columns and marble statues. From our observation it seemed the roman god of wine Bacchus himself was in attendance, overseeing the flow of festivities.

We set-up

at the VIP photo area and shot for almost 5 hours straight. Every time

we tried to go to get shots of the rooms we kept getting one more

couple or group wanting their pictures taken. We brought about 200 SF Weekly

cards and ran out by the end of the night; You should have seen the

line for photos!

The house was packed, especially in the main room where everyone was treated to a special three hour set by the world famous DJ Revolution.

The hit of the night was the photobooth itself, and everyone in the club seemed to line up to get their pic taken before the countdown to 2010 began. And as if the night wasn't already crazy enough, the New Year catapulted the evening into a frenzied pace of the three "Ds" -- dancing, drinking, and debauchery.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
