Video of the Day: Amp Live vs. the Robot vs. Trackademics

Posted By on Tue, Dec 15, 2009 at 5:05 PM

There's so much going for this video clip--one of the singles off Amp Live's upcoming solo record. "Gary is a Robot" infects you like Swine Flu with that funky android club beat, the lip synching nurse bit is cute, and the whole concept of a robot who swipes hipster styles is really smart (especially since the song both makes fun of Auto-Tune and uses it to its advantage). Throw in a cameo from Trackademics as another of Gary's victims, and Amp is off to an excellent start in stoking anticipation for his album, due out in February.

Amp's been a local DJ/producer to keep an ear on for a while now, though. His work with Zion I, as well as his Radiohead remixes, have elevated his name far outside the Bay. (His production resumes lists Akon, Tokyo Police Club, and MGMT as clients). He just better hope Gary doesn't start hanging out in his studio--that's one shady little robot.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
