What To Do? Thanksgiving Pick: Bingocornucopia at the Knockout

Posted By on Thu, Nov 26, 2009 at 8:05 AM

Bingocornucopia @ The Knockout

A long time ago, like nearly five years ago, a Mission District bar called the Knockout changed hands. It was crammed with crap at the time, and the new owners threw out most of the crap, which was probably a good idea. They hauled in new crap that they liked better, and all was well. One piece of crap, though, made it from one dive-bar identity to the next unscathed: A wonderful old Bingo board; wall-mounted, unreliable, and ever-popular. "Play for drinx, dignity, and dorky prizes," say the new owners, who aren't new anymore; tonight, the game is called "Bingocornucopia" (it happens every Thursday under the name Bingotopia), the caller is Yule Be Sorry, and the tender 'tender is Johnny Boss. Big secret: Bingo is genuinely, weirdly fun, and is the perfect après-feast holiday dénouement. (9 p.m., free)

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
