Too Drunk? Too $hort
  • Too Drunk? Too $hort
Say it ain't so, $hort. This may have slipped under the radar due to all the music-related stuff going on last weekend, but on Aug 27, reported that Oakland rap pioneer Too $hort, ne Todd Anthony Shaw, had been arrested in Las Vegas under suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of under an ounce of marijuana after he was pulled over for "burning rubber" at about 4 am.

It's the second Vegas DUI for the 43-year old rapper in the past three months and may lead to further legal penalties if Shaw's blood-alcohol content is found to be above .02, which would be a violation of Nevada's zero-tolerance statutes for drunk driving offenders. While 2003's "Burn Rubber" is acknowledged as a latter-day classic and one of the songs which jump-started the hyphy movement, this latest arrest may fall under the category of "keeping it too real." Memo to Shaw: next time you go out partying on the Strip, get a limo or hire a driver. You can afford it, big dog.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
