Gift of Gab Announces New Solo Record

Posted By on Thu, Aug 27, 2009 at 10:55 AM

Today, Blackalicious emcee Gift of Gab announced the October 27 release of his second solo album. Imaginatively-titled Escape 2 Mars, the new record features guest appearances by Del the Funky Homosapien, Brother Ali, Honeycut vocalist Bart Davenport, Joyo Velarde and fellow Mighty Underdog Lateef the Truthspeaker. Production on the album, which ventures away from backpack hip-hop and into electronic/experimental territory, comes courtesy of DNAEBEATS and Headnodic.

In a statement, the rapper says the album's title reflects his burgeoning green consciousness: ""People are gonna think this is about Martians, but it's not," Gab explains. "It's more so about taking care of the planet we're on. We might have to escape to Mars or somewhere else if we keep taking the planet we live on for granted."

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
