Track of the Day: Washed Out

Posted By on Wed, Aug 26, 2009 at 10:25 AM

Washed Out's lo-fi cosmic disco has a tight rubber band bounce underneath airy washes of synth and, in one especially sweet summer jam, steel drum interludes. The music is made for slow swaying with a head full of stars, the vocals delivered swaddled in a soft melodic hush and fuzzy distortion. Eric Frederic of Wallpaper. turned me on to this Columbia, South Carolina bedroom producer, whose baked beach bum aesthetic is most transcendent on tunes like "New Theory," which you can check out on Washed Out's MySpace page

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
