What can you tell us about your record label? The label is called FRITE NITE. We make most of our revenue from publishing and licensing (you have to these days) but the label side and promotions are essential to keep it all fresh. I'm snagging up some really talented kids and we're going to take over the world. We focus on experimental electronic music, various dance genres, some crossover dubstep, hip-hop, and all around stuff you can just vibe too. We have a ton of new releases slated for this year!
What sort of stuff have you been producing lately? The Salva sound has maintained a progressive and psychedelic edge, now focusing on more grime and dubstep-oriented productions. I started a new alias this year called Phosho (I like Pho soup!) and that is straight up and down sweaty, filthy, and shameless dance music, doing a new take on old school Chicago house and juke. Just released a couple Phosho tracks on Think2wice out of Kansas City, and a Salva remix on 1320 records which is Sound Tribe Sector 9's record label.
Name of a track you can't get out of your head: DJ Quik & Kurupt "9 Times Outta 10"
Name of an artist you're currently championing in your DJ sets: Sharkslayer. That's really some disco meets dubstep right there. It's the manifestation of Jack House music with some wobbly new school dubstep basslines and some tropical edits.
Musical mantra: Don't hate! If you don't like it, most likely you're just not hip to it yet.
Favorite DJ experience: Private NYE yacht party on Star Island (where Madonna lives) off the causeway in Miami. Me, the homies and 300 crazy heads.
Worst request: Anybody who asks me to turn the volume down!
Worst club faux pas you've committed: Being too f*cked up to play!! Those days are long behind me, I'm all business now. Haha!
Most treasured vinyl score: All my Egyptian Lover records.
What other music-related projects are you currently working on? I'm working really hard to make it happen right now. You will see projects from these groups surface in the coming months: Salva, Phosho, Epcot, The Vanishing System, Joy Anderson, Bravo & Salva, Adad...and more..
What's the idea behind the Disco vs. Dubstep night you're DJing?
Nu disco & boogie, along with bubstep -- these are undeniably the hottest sounds in the SF underground. We wanted to bring these to the youth, so we're doing an 18+ party at Poleng lounge every Wednesday. It's really for the love of the bass line, at whatever tempo you want to operate.
What's something happening in the local music scene that should be getting more attention? I think SF has the most cutting-edge music scene in the country. I know Dirtybird records is popular here, but maybe it should be more popular, that label puts the funnest music!!!
What elements would your fantasy club night entail? Really good champagne for my girl, and an over-abundance of bass bins.
