After 11 years, Oakland band the Matches  has announced they are going on hiatus, meaning they will no longer be active as a group, as members pursue individual projects and their own personal lives outside the group.

Breaking up is hard to do, but to soften the blow for their fans--and give ardent supporters a final chance to appreciate them one last time--they've announced two farewell shows: August 22 in Los Angeles, and August 23rd in San Francisco (with Dizzy Balloon and Judgement Day). Matches aficionados will have the chance to choose the setlist for the farewell shows in an online poll--more info on that is here and ticket info for the SF finale is here.

On a side note, Matches guitarist Jonathan Devoto  debuts his new band at Blakes in Berkeley August 21; ticket info is here.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
