Friday. Countdown until we get our weekend on. Countdown of the options to consider if you want to spend less than $10 going somewhere.

Agent Ribbons @ The Knockout (Friday)

Sacramento's Agent Ribbons give old-timey music a swift punk kick. The bittersweet female trio of drums, cello, and guitar uses their angelic voices to tell devilish stories, pausing to throw a hiccup or three into a song just to make sure you know these ain't no lullabies. We're big fans of these ladies, as are Mission Creek, who booked them to play the Knockout tonight (9 p.m., $7).

Alisha's Home Cookin' Fridays @ Riptide (Friday)

Spend happy hour out by the (foggy, so very foggy) beach tonight and earn some free vittles for the effort. The Riptide feeds those who kick off the clock a little early with Home Cookin', where the menu comprises Blushin' Bunnies, chili con carne, chicken pot pie, and other items that'll make you leave the beer nuts in the bowl. Happy hour goes from 4 until 7 p.m., food goes until it's gone, and if you arrive a little late, you can still stay for the Friday night DJ, who spins good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll.

Shimositsu, Softserv @ Adobe (Friday)

One of the best things about looking at S.F. through a low-budget lens is it often opens up atypical venues for you to venture into. Case in point: Adobe Books, which has long housed experimental and quiet-leaning acts for an evening amongst the stacks of vintage lit. Tonight Mission Creek hosts a free show at the store, featuring the psych-loop duo Shimomitsu and Softserv, both of whom do nice tickly things to your ears and throw kaleidoscopic curve balls at your brain.  (7 p.m.)

Free Ice Cream @ Three Twins (Friday)

We've had this one on the calendar for weeks (waiting for the 71 bus at the corner of Haight and Fillmore gives you lots of free time). The Lower Haight's organic ice cream parlor, Three Twins Ice Cream, is giving away the store (well, in very small portions) for one day only. From noon until 11 p.m., get a little scoop of heaven without paying for it. A little more info at FuncheapSF.com.

Hunx & His Punks @ El Rio (Saturday)

Hunx & His Punks make some of the best videos in town. Under Justin Kelly's direction, these minimusicals take you back in time to the days of girl group yearning, but updated for our queer punk hero. The clips are as visually colorful as the subject matter, scuffing up the old formulas for cruising, crushing, and waiting for a dude's call. Check out these Hunx-y movies over on MySpace, and see the group live tonight at El Rio. ($7, 10 p.m.)

Richard Avedon Film Series @ SFMOMA (Saturday)

On Saturday afternoon, SFMOMA screens three films (ranging in length from 12 to 58 minutes) that came out of a collaboration between photographer Richard Avedon and writer James Baldwin, a series called Nothing Personal. Today's gems include Sammy Davis Jr. and Robert F. Kennedy celebrating Christmas (Jingle Bells) and the bizarro-sounding bit about Timothy Leary getting married (You're Nobody Till Somebody Loves You). Screening starts at 3 p.m. ($5 general, free for members and with museum admission).

4OneFunktion @ Elbo Room (Saturday)

There's gonna be plenty of bass rattling and booty shaking the Elbo Room Saturday night, when 4OneFunk takes over the club. Guest DJs E da Boss and Whooligan team up with residents Mista B, A-Ron The Don, and B.Cause to make it hard for you to stay off the dancefloor. ($5, or email for guestlist goodcompanysf@gmail.com, 10 p.m.)

Ghosts, Sinners & Secret Places (Saturday)
Kick off your Saturday night with a little twisted education, thanks to San Francisco City Guides. It's time for another installment of the popular "Ghosts, Sinners & Secret Places" tour, which clues walkers in to a labyrinth of old San Francisco speakeasies, hidden tunnels, and scandals. Meet at the kiosk in Hallidie Plaza at Market and Powell. (7 p.m., free)

Lyrics Born Re-View, the Mighty Underdogs @ Stern Grove (Sunday)

Lyrics Born is a consummate entertainer, able to sweep crowds off their feet with a
single beat. (Well, nearly a single beat). Dude's a great performer no matter his entourage. Today he takes over Stern Grove with a top-notch hip-hop crew that includes the honey-voiced Joyo Velarde (aka his wife), Trackademicks, DJ D Sharp, and The Mighty Underdogs (Lateef the Truth Speaker, Gift of Gab, and Headnodic). Raise those picnic blankets in the air, y'all! (Free, 2 p.m.)

Sweater Funk 1-Year Anniversary @ Li Po (Sunday)

School night, schmool night. You can sleep when you're dead. Sunday marks the one year anniversary of big funk in little Chinatown, Sweater Funk, and all the big DJs are gonna be on hand for this one: Jon Blunck, Guillermo, Renmin, Shred One, Vinyl Richie, Selector Kirk, Chungtech, Sabriina ... oh, we can't type out every last name here but you get the picture. This is a DJ's DJ night -- and to prove it, the Sweater Funk folks will have on hand fresh mix-CDs for fans to pick up. How can you not love a  club whose motto is "Wrong music, wrong place, wrong night ... three wrongs make it right!"? (9 p.m., free)

  • clipping at Brava Theater Sept. 11
Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
