Three of a Kind: Triple Threat DJs
  • Three of a Kind: Triple Threat DJs
When it comes to local legendary hip-hop DJs, few have the pedigree of the boys from Triple Threat. Apollo aka P-Lo is an original Invisible Skratch Pickl who was also Souls of Mischief's DJ on the '93 til Infinity tour. Shortkut is both a Beat Junkie and a Skratch Pickl. And before relocating to the Bay Area and joining Triple Threat, Vin Roc was a member of East Coast turntablist crew 5th Platoon and an International turntable Federation World Champion.

As Triple Threat, the three have basically been going non-stop for the past decade-plus, rocking parties from Seattle to Manila. As Vin Roc notes, "Triple Threat chose to strive for a balance between pushing boundaries with turntables [while] retaining the spirit of the music which it was derived from. A reflection of their musical upbringing and cultural identity."

All of that is to say that 3T's monthly night at Milk, "Flava of the Month," which goes down Saturday, should be extra-special this month: it's that night's six-year anniversary. Expect to hear plenty of classic hip-hop records, multi-turntable scratch routines, and the sound of many feet moving on the floor. The party also features guest DJ Swift Rock and host Fran Boogie, and if that wasn't enough, limited guest list is available (email first and last name here).

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
