Summer is sneaking into the schedule here mid-week, so it's time for a song that could double as an anthem for the sunny season. "Jamaican Girls" by dancehall heavy Terry Lynn and Johan Hugo (aka one half of London's Radioclit) combines Lynn's thick Kingston accent and lightning singsong rapping style with hard-edged dance beats, providing a Caribbean clubbing hit that with a ladies-first attitude. The song is part of Fader's free Jamaican music collection, "It Was Written," available for download so long as you click the pulldown folder putting your age as over 21 (beer sponsors gotta watch their backs).

If you missed the Brass, Bows and Beats premiere at the Palace of Fine Arts a few months back, don't despair. The 50-piece hip-hop orchestra, led by Jazz Mafia don Adam Theis and featuring alt-hop icon Lyrics Born, has just announced six Yoshi's shows August 20-22. But that's not all: according to publicist Jason Schwartz, Theis has plans to add choreography and take the show to Broadway. Cab Calloway is probably lighting a stick of Viper in heaven at the news.

UPDATE: According to the Theis-meister, Lyrics Born is NOT scheduled to perform at Yoshis (though a cameo app is possible), and the orchestra will be limited to 40 musicians (apparently that's all that can fit on the stage).

5 Things I'd Rather Hear About Than More Michael Jackson Coverage

Amadou & Maryam

Believe it or not folks, there are other things happening in the entertainment world besides the seemingly endless Michael Jackson media feeding frenzy - which should have concluded with his memorial service and BET tribute. Here are a few:

5. Amadou & Mariam opening for Coldplay. Two blind musicians from Mali with an amazing sound and a story to match have snagged the coveted opening spot for the world's biggest rock band not named U2 or the Rolling Stones on their current tour (which comes to the Shoreline Amphitheater July 13). That's huge for world music.

A little bit of news about a little side project: San Francisco's Wooden Shjips announced the arrival of a new Velvet Underground-ish offshoot. Moon Duo keeps the three D's (drone, distortion, dissonance) going but adds a little more melody in the two excerpts offered on the band's MySpace page. The songs "Love on the Sea" and "E-Z Street Ext" are off the debut Moon Duo 12" from Sick Thirst. The Shjips sail over to Bottom of the Hill July 11 for a show with Oneida and Jonas Reinhardt.

The Fillmore

Better than:
Watching Michael Jackson's memorial service on your laptop.

Last night, the Fillmore felt like a giant bachelorette party that just happened to have some dudes at it.

Women in their 30s and 40s were pressed in toward the stage in packs of four and five, passing the time before Duran Duran stood before them by clinking together plastic cocktail cups, taking photos of their entourages, singing along to the piped-in Cars and Power Station songs, and adjusting their tight, sparkly outfits -- for those who had arrived in tight, sparkly outfits. The ladies' night vibe was so strong -- and so verbal, the whoops rising every couple minutes regardless of whether John Taylor was remotely in view -- that the men who did brave their way toward the front probably started their periods just by being there.

The females owned the room. They were ready to party like it was 1985. And really, I can't remember a show where the crowd was this visibly, verbally, and avidly enthusiastic from the minute they entered the room until the last Duran Duran poster was handed out at the door (at which point the ladies started cursing the security guards). But then again, I've never been to a Jonas Brothers concert.

Summer's Best Lineup in Big Sur: Woods, Gang Gang Dance, Ariel Pink, More

Gang Gang Dance likes trees - JOSH WILDMAN

I've been to lots of great (((folkYEAH!))) events over the years, but this one--just announced--for Saturday, August 29 is pretty much the sweetest lineup they've had yet. For one night the indie promoter is teaming with Kemado Records to host "In the Pines," featuring an incredible bill of psych, folk, metal, and bands that melt those pots together: Woods, Dungen, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Gang Gang Dance, Kurt Vile, Farmer Dave Scher, Saviours, VietNam, and Wooden Shjips. Dude. The one bummer is that tickets have barely gone on sale (supposedly you can grab them for $29 a pop through this site) and already all the cheap accommodations in town are booked/about to be booked up. If you think you might wanna go, I'd get on that ASAP.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
