Free downloads are the new mixtapes. Almost every day, it seems, there's a new one that either introduces listeners to an emerging artist and/ or offers fresh music (some of which could never be released commercially due to clearance issues). Works for you, works for me, good for the environment; no more wasted plastic, and no more struggling with adhesive to open the case.

The download du jour is J-Billion and P-Funk's The One Take Mix-Tape, available here. It's a sixteen-track masterpiece, also featuring DJ Ant One, courtesy of your friends at 24 Karat Milkcrate. And in case you were wondering about the eminently buzzworthy Mr. Billion, SF's "illest rapper with a day job," and a proud representative of SF's Hufset crew, peep an interview with him here.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
