Here's some cool news for DJ and producers: music production software maker Ableton has teamed with electronic music institute Dubspot to present a series of interactive workshops utilizing Ableton's newest app, Live 8, and its dedicated controller, the Akai APC40.

The tour, which travels through eight major U.S. cities, hits San Francisco next weekend, beginning with a kick-off party May 7 at the Elbo Room's Afrolicious--in honor of the national release of FunkAid, the first in a series of Dubspot-produced compilations benefiting African children affected by the AIDS crisis. The Live 8 sessions also include free public clinics at Robotspeak May 8 and Guitar Center May 9; two full days of paid workshops with hands-on seminars and Q&As featuring Dub Gabriel, Jason Short, Jon Margulies, Barry Cole, Christopher Willits, Matt Moldover, and a "special guest performance" TBA. Nighttime events including the Spring Pajama Jam at Mezzanine May 8 with Justin Martin, Worthy, J. Philip, Claude Von Stroke, and Christian Martin and May 10's Dubmission, also at the Elbo Room, with DJ Sep, J-Boogie, and DJ Sabbo. RSVP here.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
