Local heroes Zion-I are currently completing a West Coast swing in support of their hot new release, The Takeover. How nice of them to stop through Slim's on Friday before continuing on to points East, including Chicago, Michigan, Vermont, New York, and Ontario.

Their Slim's show should be off the chain, however, for a couple of reasons. First of all, Zion-I's live set is legendary. Nuff said. But do pay close attention to the undercard, an all-local bill featuring next-level acts The Kev Choice Ensemble, Trackademicks, and BRWN BFLO (a dope Latino hip-hop crew outta the biggity biggity O whose self-titled debut album drops on Cinco De Mayo. They're also playing at the Uptown on May 2nd). It's unlikely that you'll find a better combination of musical and lyrical talent, energy, and consciousness on a hip-hop bill anywhere, so don't sleep!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
