Video Vanquisher: Azeem
A little while back, I blogged about Oakland MC Azeem's hecka fresh new video, "Latin Revenge." Well, as it turns out, our local hero has another new video, titled "Open 'Em Up," and this one is kinda stupid dope. In fact, it's currently (as of this writing) holding down the top slot at BET.com's Ya Heard, a YouTUBE-like showcase for independent music videos - many of which are way tighter than the crappy ultra-commercial stuff BET airs on its cable TV network.

The competition pits Azeem up against other aspiring emcees Hydro, K-Banger, Lunch (whose video features sex tape and reality TV star Ray-J), and Theory. Online viewers can help maintain the Bay Area's hip-hop supremacy by watching and voting here. or here.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
