Track of the Day: Sholi

Last week: So much bad news about Touch and Go, the esteemed label and distributor that hit hard financial times and is pulling in the ranks (specifically cutting its distro side and some of its staff). This week: Let's look on the bright side. The label has just released new material from two talented local acts, Mi Ami and Sholi. Sholi's self-titled debut came out Feb. 17 on Touch and Go/Quartersick, and you can download a free MP3 from the band, "Tourniquet" here. And hey, while you're there, you can also download a free MP3 from Mi Ami, "New Guitar." If you dig what you hear, you can order music by two up and coming local acts while supporting a label that it sounds like could use a little financial help. Because it seems the label is, well, living up to its name a little more than fans would like.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
