Cal Academy to Offer Thursday Happy Hours

Posted By on Wed, Jan 28, 2009 at 11:48 AM

I'm a huge fan of the California Academy of Sciences. Or at least I think I am, from what I can remember of the enormous aquarium/planetarium/rain forest/science museum. Every time I decide to head into the park to stare at jellyfish for a couple hours, the lines (of kids, and kids, and more kids) scare me. So I'm glad to hear that Cal Academy is going to host weekly events for adults--a happy hour much like the one at the de Young Museum across the way. They're calling it NightLife, and the series hits every Thursday evening from 6 until 10 p.m. with DJs, food, cocktails, and lots of science stuff. The first NightLife comes on Thursday, Feb. 12 with DJs Fluid and J-Boogie. Drink with the fishes.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
