Attention Sean Hayes fans: the folksy local singer/songwriter is currently being featured on the custom web radio site Pandora as part of their video series. The clip shows Hayes explaining the thought process behind his tune "Flowering Spade" -- a track based on the idea of a sigil -- as well as a live performance of the musician performing the pretty ditty live. Check it out below.

MP3 of the Day: Hélène Renaut

Ah, to be sitting in a little cafe in the Oberkampf, sipping from a glass of pastis as a French chanteuse fills your ears with acoustic bonbons. For those who can barely afford french fries, let alone a trip to Paris, we have a little bit of the République française here in San Francisco, thanks to singer/songwriter Hélène Renaut. Renaut relocated from her hometown in the "green and rocky coast of Brittany" to her current residence in the foggy and hilly coast of Northern California. Her charming folk can be heard on releases like her 2003 debut, as well as on the works of local pals like Willow Willow and Honeycut, to whom she contributed elements like violin and string arrangements and vocals. Check out her twee gem "The Way You Looked At Me" for a bit of Belle & Sebastian with a beret. (Renaut performs at the "Smile" club night on Monday, Jan. 23 at the Knockout).

Far Reunion Tour Hits S.F. in February

Once upon a time in the '90s, a band called Far emerged from Sacramento and delivered crunchy, hard rock music paired with silky, melodic vocals. It was like the first time you tried peanut butter with ychocolate. It put out some of the most amazing and underrated albums of their era in Tin Cans with Strings to You and Water & Solutions. And, like every good '90s music act, Far broke up and fell into relative obscurity to begin the new millennium. Alas, the band has reunited (like every good '90s music act), and plays Slim's on Feb. 22. Tickets are available now.

Buy "Guitar Hero: World Tour" at Bay Area Amoeba Stores for Ridiculously Cheap

Posted By on Thu, Jan 22, 2009 at 11:21 AM

It's hard to speculate why Guitar Hero: World Tour is such a huge cultural phenomenon since it costs so damn much. When the game is bundled with its complete repertoire of fake plastic instruments, it seems like only the overpaid athletes featured in the TV spots (see above) can afford to buy it. The fine folks at Amoeba Music are belting out a collective "That ain't right!," because they're now holding a massive sale for Guitar Hero: World Tour on all gaming platforms. Aside from discounting the guitar bundle and stand-alone game, both the S.F. and Berkeley locations are taking $30 off the complete band bundle. The sale runs while supplies last, so hurry. Check out Amoeba.com to get more info.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
