Chris Silva brings his latest solo show, The Church of Wife, Wuv, and Waughter to Gallery Three this month, as well as a whole lotta collective oneness. The new collection features 13 new pieces, all of which find purpose in Silva's commitment to humanity, relationships, and nature. Expect colorful graffiti-infused paintings with themes of love and humor to get your PMA up. This one's gonna be good for the soul, y'all. The Church of Wife, Wuv, and Waughter opens Saturday, Jan. 17 with a reception from 7-11 p.m., and will run until Feb. 7. More info at shootinggallerysf.com.

If putting together a successful solo art exhibit and releasing a new clothing line isn't awesome enough, SF artist Alex Pardee is now in the process of creating toys. Teaming with Upper Playground, Alex Pardee will release his very first vinyl figure in early Feb. that looks to be his own vision of the trademark UP walrus. Details are slim right now, but check out Juxtapoz for some shots of the wax figure in development.

Of all those shoegazer bands making a racket in the '90s, who knew that Swervedriver would have such a lasting following? The London band's San Francisco show last year was highly anticipated and well attended from the reports I received. And now, the group's first three albums were re-issued last week by Second Motion/Hi-Speed Soul Records. Extended and remastered versions of Mezcal Head, Raise, and Ejector Set Reservation are all out now on disc (in a limited edition series) with liner notes from the members.

MP3 of the Day: Celine Dion 2013

Which would you prefer: To drop a bucketload of money to see Celine Dion in San Jose on February 20 at HP Pavilion, or to kick down just a couple bucks to see Celine Dion at the Stud on February 26? The big difference, my friend, is whether you desire an evening of singular Canadian-grade mom music, or a night of noise from members of The Fucking Champs and Crime in Choir. If filling a drag bar with deep drones is more your thing, I'd suggest the latter Celine -- or, rather, Celine Dion 2013, the official name of the noiseniks comprising the new San Francisco act. Check the sounds of whispered industrial anthems undercut by drive-by fighter jets on the Celine Dion 2013 track "Huit," available on the group's MySpace page.

The weekend was wonderfully whimsical for us here at All Shook Down. On Saturday, reporter Ashley Harrell met a crowd of 50 outside Dalva's in the Mission and followed them on their pants-less trek through the streets, BART and MUNI. Much gawking ensued. Read Ashley's dispatch and see her fun photos here.

Van Arno and "Family First Group Show

Shooting Gallery and White Walls

January 10, 2008

Review and Photos by Joshua "Creep" G.

Better Than: Having your parents call for computer help, every day.

Elsewhere: See the rest of the show on Creep's Flickr here.

The end of 2008 was filled with exciting shows, closing an otherwise great year for art. I was pretty sure the shows would take a bit to get back in gear, but this weekend showed me otherwise. Of course I can't just skip on over to all the receptions taking place in Los Angeles or New York, but with galleries like White Walls and Shooting Gallery so close to me I can see great art right here. I usually take that two hour bus ride, but this time I rented a car and drove myself and the girlfriend over the bridge to enjoy the day. I loved the fact that the city wasn't as cold as what we've been dealing with the past few weeks.

So after something nice to eat, and checking out a few shops, we headed over to the galleries. I like to get there a little early so that I can take photos of the work without having to ask people to move aside, or wait for them to move. The crowd didn't really pick up until around 8pm. So I have plenty of time to look at all the work, and get multiple shots of each piece. I really can't stress how great the lighting is in these galleries; I can think of a handful of galleries that could use a setup like this.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
