Bay Area Grammy Nominees: Metallica, Neil Young, Keyshia Cole

Metallica, Neil Young, and Keyshia Cole were among the Bay Area acts on the Grammys' nominee list, which made the rounds in the music industry today.

Metallica is up for "Best Metal Performance," "Best Rock Instrumental Performance," and "Best Rock Album," (all related to Death Magnetic). Young got the nod for "Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance"; while Cole got her nomination for "Best Female Vocal R&B Performance." Local artists also made it on the Grammy picks in the areas of folk (Joan Baez), blues (Elvin Bishop and John Lee Hooker Jr.), and world music (Mickey Hart's Global Drum Project). All in all, Bay Area acts earned nominations in 12 categories. Winners will be announced at the Grammys on Feb. 8, 2009. -- Jennifer Maerz
